World Meningitis Day is observed annually on October 5th to raise awareness about meningitis, a serious and potentially life-threatening infection that inflames the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord. It was established in 2009 by the Confederation of Meningitis Organizations (CoMO) and is supported by the World Health Organization (WHO), the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and other global health organizations.
The day aims to raise awareness about meningitis symptoms, risks, and prevention, promote vaccination as a crucial prevention, measure support those affected by meningitis and advocate for improved access to meningitis diagnosis, treatment, and care.
